Dr. Carlos Lalonde
Chief of Psychiatry, The Residence and Corporate Services
Dr. Carlos Lalonde serves as the Chief of Psychiatry for The Residence and Corporate Services at Homewood Health. As the full-time, in-house Psychiatrist at The Residence, Dr. Lalonde provides leadership to the interdisciplinary team and is responsible for overseeing program development and optimizing clinical strategies and outcomes. He is also involved in the clinical program development for the national network of Homewood Clinics and the upcoming Homewood facility in Victoria, British Columbia, opening in 2018.
Dr. Lalonde has been a Psychiatrist and Medical Director at Homewood since 2010, providing clinical oversight and leadership to the Acute Care Units, which delivers assessment and stabilization to approximately 850 patients a year. He has developed a breadth of expertise in the treatment of a variety of conditions including severe mood and anxiety disorders, addictions and concurrent disorders and is well known for his ability to form meaningful connections with his patients. Dr. Lalonde brings a level of dedication, dependability and passion to his work that is both rare and refreshing.
During his undergraduate studies and residency training, Dr. Lalonde was the recipient of numerous awards for academic achievement, community service, and research. He is an experienced lecturer and has had publications in a number of academic journals.
Dr. Lalonde is an Assistant Professor at McMaster University and plays a key role in the training of medical students and Psychiatry resident physicians. Since 2013 he has served as the Waterloo Regional Education Leader for the Post Graduate Psychiatry Residency Program at McMaster University. Dr. Lalonde is honored to be a current examiner for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
In his personal life, Dr. Lalonde is dedicated to his family as well as optimizing his health and fitness. He enjoys running, cycling, and weight training and loves the occasional round of golf or hockey game.
