Michelle Nogueira is The Residence’s Addiction & Recovery Management Specialist and Digital Lead. Her primary role is in the Recovery Management Program. This aftercare role is a perfect fit as she has been intrigued with relapse prevention throughout her career and has proclaimed that “Relapse Prevention is the cornerstone of Addiction Counselling.”
For the past 35 years, Michelle has worked through the continuum of care in the addiction field. She has achieved certifications in gambling, gaming and addictions. She is also a Registered Social Service Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW).
She is genuine, energetic, kind and understanding. Her approach is a blend of evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Relapse Prevention Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention, Transtheoretical Model of Change and Motivational Enhancement Therapy.
As the digital lead at The Residence, she is passionate about promoting digital wellness through mindfulness. She facilitates digital wellness sessions, is a freelance writer on mindfulness and technology and is a Community Gaming Expert. She has also co-authored a book, My Parent’s Aren’t NOOBS!
Michelle is also an Instructor at Wilfrid Laurier University. She teaches Understanding Relapse Prevention, Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) and Behavioural Addictions: Gambling, Gaming and Technology Overuse.
